Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) today felicitated promising talent Mahesh Mohapatra for achieving the No 1 position in the under-12 National (AITA) rankings. OTA chairman Priyabrat Patnaik handed over a certificate of appreciation and a cash award of Rs 25,000 to the local boy at the opening ceremony of the OTPPA-OTA U-16 Championship Series Tournament here at Kalinga Stadium.
OTA secretary Madhusudan Padhi, OTPPA president Pramod Kumar Pattnaik, Mahesh’s coach Ajay Nishank and tournament referee Jatin Vatsya were present on the occasion.
According to the latest AITA rankings, updated on April 21, Mahesh has to his name 410 points, which include 235 in u-12 singles, 71.25 in u-12 doubles and 103.75 in under -14 category. The u-12 points have been taken from the best six of the tournaments he played during past 12 months.
A trainee of city-based Ace-Base Tennis Academy, Mahesh attained the No 1 ranking by winning both the singles and doubles titles in the AITA U-12 Super Series Tournament, held last month at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad. He has so far won five singles and three doubles titles in different AITA junior tournaments.
